City Council and staff reviewed community feedback and departmental requirements to establish priorities for Fiscal Year 2027, during the Fayetteville City Council’s annual strategic planning retreat held on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
The Council reached a consensus to reaffirm several key goals, including the implementation of a comprehensive approach to community safety and the enhancement of economic growth opportunities. The proposed priorities also emphasize expanding housing and neighborhood revitalization, specifically regarding affordable housing and improving transportation and transit connectivity.
The Council also reviewed a second-quarter progress report for the current 2026 fiscal year. Data shows the Fayetteville Cares Day Resource Center recorded over 300 unique interactions in the second quarter, connecting residents with 45 community partners.
Economic efforts in the second quarter included $1.13 million in grants and loans, contributing to a year-to-date total of approximately $3.27 million. In housing, nine first-time homebuyers were assisted through the Homebuying HERO Program, and five homeowners received emergency repairs. Infrastructure developments included the construction of over 21,000 linear feet of sidewalks.
Youth engagement programs also saw participation, with the Orange Street STEM Initiative reaching 1,136 participants and various technology training programs serving students from Douglas Byrd and 71st High Schools.
The City Council is expected to take an official vote on these priorities and their associated action plans at a future meeting.
