FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – A long-standing source of crime and blight in Fayetteville is finally slated for demolition. An order was issued on August 19, 2025, to demolish the property at 2507 Gillespie Street, more commonly known as the Coliseum Inn. The move follows years of complaints and law enforcement actions targeting the site.
The order, signed by Senior Resident Superior Court Judge James Floyd, Ammons, Jr., mandates that demolition must begin within 90 days of the order and be completed by December 18, 2025.
For years, the Coliseum Inn has been a focal point for criminal activity, including drug offenses and human trafficking. The site's reputation has had a negative impact on the surrounding Bel-Air community and the 301 Corridor.
Sheriff Johnathan Morgan expressed relief and optimism about the court's decision. “The demolition of the Coliseum Inn represents a significant step toward enhancing the safety and security of our community,” Morgan said in a statement. "It has been a long journey, but I am confident in the future of our county."
Morgan also extended his support to those who were victims of the property's criminal activities. "I stand firmly with the survivors of human trafficking and substance abuse, the Bel-Air community, the 301 Corridor, and all those who were adversely affected by the criminal activities linked to this property. Working together, we create positive change."
The demolition marks the end of a protracted effort by local law enforcement and community members to address the public safety issues posed by the property. The site's removal is expected to pave the way for future redevelopment and revitalization efforts in the area.
