FAYETTEVILLE, NC – A Fayetteville man is facing multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, after allegedly striking a firefighter with his vehicle at the scene of a gas leak on Thursday.
Ramon Bonilla-Soto Jr., 26, was arrested by Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Detectives following the incident on Legion Road.
The events unfolded on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at approximately 3:48 p.m., when deputies responded to a report of an uncooperative individual at a gas leak site. Firefighters from the Pearce’s Mill Fire Department were actively working to secure the area, which necessitated the closure of Legion Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, a firefighter informed Ramon Bonilla-Soto Jr. that he was prohibited from traveling down Legion Road. In defiance, Ramon Bonilla-Soto Jr. allegedly attempted to cross the median in his 2021 Acura, striking the firefighter in the process. Fortunately, the firefighter sustained no severe injuries.
Ramon Bonilla-Soto Jr. has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official, Careless and Reckless Driving, Driving over the Concrete Median, Driving while License Revoked, and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Officer.
He was processed into the Cumberland County Detention Center and has since posted his $40,000 secure bond. His first appearance in court is scheduled for Friday, May 30, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
