The Fayetteville Police Department has concluded the homicide investigation regarding a shooting that occurred back on January 3, at Mac’s Speed Shop on N. McPherson Church Road resulting in the death of two victims. Fay News 10 has obtained official audio of the 911 calls placed during the Shooting.
Officers originally responded to the scene just before 7pm following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, police located two victims, later identified as brothers Timothy Nakamoto, 43, and Daniel Nakamoto, 45. Daniel Nakamoto was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Timothy Nakamoto succumbed to his injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
The investigation, conducted by the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit, included a review of forensic evidence, witness statements, and video surveillance. Investigators determined that a verbal argument inside the business escalated into a physical altercation, which culminated in the shooting.
In consultation with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office, officials ruled the use of force was justified under North Carolina law. As a result, no criminal charges will be filed against the individual involved. The Fayetteville Police Department is not releasing the identity of that individual, noting they have not been charged with a crime.
Police described the shooting as an isolated incident and stated there is no ongoing threat to the community. While the legal investigation has concluded, the department noted the incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of escalating disputes and encouraged citizens to seek assistance before conflicts turn violent.
