Cumberland County Announces Parking Options for Courthouse and New Visitors

Visitors to the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse now have updated options for public parking. The changes come as the county continues to manage parking access near the facility, ensuring courthouse operations remain smooth while providing free and accessible solutions for the public.

The public parking lot located in front of the courthouse remains closed and will remain not in use at this time.

To address the closure, the County has secured several free public parking options for those needing access to the courthouse:

First Presbyterian Church Parking Lot: This lot is accessible via the 200 block of Person St.

Designated ADA Accessible Spaces: These are located in the rear courthouse lot facing Cool Spring St., offering close proximity to the rear entrance.

Gravel Lots: Two additional gravel lots are available at 334 Person St. and 125 S. Kennedy St.

Updated Downtown Parking

Visitors are encouraged to view a detailed map and directions for all parking locations at the county's website: https://cumberlandcountync.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ff4ef865cd51b3e2a3bfd524f&id=4b70cba168&e=78a40bf439

The county stresses that visitors should only utilize the free public lots identified on the parking map or available paid parking options. Vehicles parked in restricted or designated areas—such as those reserved for staff and jurors—will be subject to towing at the owner’s expense.

These new alternatives serve as a temporary solution as Cumberland County continues to evaluate long-term parking strategies that align with community needs and budgetary priorities. The county aims for these alternative options to provide safe, accessible, and cost-free solutions for all courthouse visitors.
