Registered Sex Offender Faces New Firearm and Child Support Charges

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - A Fayetteville man, identified as a registered sex offender, was arrested today on charges of possessing a firearm as a felon and an outstanding child support warrant. Jaevon Rahaan Benjamin, 32, was taken into custody by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Child Support Unit and the Sex Offender Registration Unit.

Deputies arrived at the 1700 block of Skibo Road to serve an order for arrest for child support. When Benjamin opened the door, he reportedly attempted to retreat into the room. Deputies were able to detain him without further incident. During the arrest, a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun was located on the bed.

Benjamin was subsequently charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon and served with the child support warrant.

He was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center. A $240 cash bond was set for the child support warrant, while bond was denied for the firearm possession charge. Benjamin's first appearance was scheduled for Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the Cumberland County Detention Center, where his bond for the firearm charge was modified to $10,000 secured.
