A significant upgrade is coming to a key intersection in Cumberland County, as the N.C. Department of Transportation has greenlit a $1.2 million project to improve traffic flow at the main entrance to Gates Four Golf & Country Club.
Local firm Highland Paving Co. has been awarded the contract to undertake the improvements at the intersection of Lakewood Drive and Towbridge Road. The project will see the installation of a new traffic signal, along with dedicated left-turn lanes for both directions of Lakewood Drive at Towbridge Road, which serves as the primary access point for the large gated community. Additionally, drivers approaching Gates Four on southbound Lakewood Drive will benefit from a new dedicated right-turn lane.
Lakewood Drive is a vital thoroughfare, accommodating an estimated 13,000 vehicles daily. It plays a crucial role in connecting various parts of western Fayetteville and provides access to Jack Britt High School, as well as two other schools situated further north.
Construction is expected to commence next month, with a targeted completion date by next summer.
