131 Citations Issued in Joint I-295 Operation
A multi-agency law enforcement initiative aimed at addressing careless and reckless driving along Interstate 295 resulted in over 130 citations last week. According to officials the operation took place on Thursday, January 15, 2026, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
The joint effort included personnel from the Fayetteville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Fort Bragg Military Police, and Fayetteville State University Police. Officials stated the primary objective was to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, including excessive speeding, aggressive lane changes, and distracted driving along the corridor.
During the six-and-a-half-hour enforcement period, officers issued a total of 131 citations. Data released regarding the operation indicates that 120 of these citations were for speeding violations, with all documented speeds clocking in at 80 mph or higher in a 65-mph zone.
In addition to speeding, citations were issued for Safe Movement and Failure to Move Over violations, Careless and Reckless driving, No Operators License, Driving with License Revoked, regulatory violations, and lack of insurance. The operation also resulted in one arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and the procurement of one warrant for Felony Flee to Elude.
Law enforcement officials noted that the I-295 corridor is a heavily traveled route for commuters and commercial vehicles. This enforcement action follows recent traffic complaints regarding safety on the interstate. Agencies involved emphasized that the initiative serves as a preventive measure to ensure motorist safety across jurisdictions.
