Cumberland County has officially named Heather Hall as the next Director of the Cumberland County Public Library, a role she will fully assume on June 29, 2025.

Hall's appointment follows a nationwide search, culminating in her selection to head the county's library system. She takes the reins from Assistant County Manager Faith Phillips, who has admirably balanced both roles since her promotion in October 2024. Hall previously served as Phillips' Deputy Director, a position she held for three years, in addition to two years as the Learning and Innovation Librarian. This extensive background positioned her as the ideal candidate to guide the library's future.

Assistant County Manager Faith Phillips expressed immense confidence in Hall, highlighting her as "a proven dynamic and forward-thinking leader who brings passion, innovation and strategic insight to every facet of her work." Phillips emphasized Hall's deep understanding of "the vital role libraries play in building strong, inclusive communities," fully trusting her ability to propel the department forward.

Throughout her tenure as Deputy Director, Hall spearheaded initiatives that refined library operations, enhanced internal systems, and expanded programming designed for the community across Cumberland County's eight branches. Her leadership was pivotal in securing over $276,000 in grant funding, launching innovative new programs, creating welcoming and inclusive spaces, and forging crucial partnerships with local organizations in health, education, and the nonprofit sector.

County Manager Clarence Grier underscored Hall's qualifications, noting her "deep knowledge of our library system and a clear commitment to public service." Grier further added that Hall has "earned the respect of her peers and the community," anticipating that she will further solidify the library's standing as an essential resource for all Cumberland County residents.

Before her arrival in Cumberland County in 2020, Hall's career included serving as Executive Director for a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting families of children with special needs and young adults transitioning into adulthood. She holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Tennessee and is an active participant in prominent library associations, including the American Library Association, Public Library Association, and North Carolina Library Association.

"I am honored to serve as the next Cumberland County Public Library Director," Hall shared, looking forward to her new role. She views the libraries as "cornerstones of opportunity and connection in this community" and is eager to collaborate with the dedicated staff to ensure every visitor finds "welcomed, supported, and inspired when they walk through our doors."
