
Garry Crumpler Selected as Cumberland County Emergency Services Director
Cumberland County has named Garry Crumpler as its new Emergency Services Director. Crumpler has served the county since 2019 and brings over 18 years of experience in the emergency services field to the position.
Cumberland County has appointed Garry Crumpler as the new Emergency Services Director. Crumpler has been with the county since 2019, most recently holding the position of Interim Emergency Services Director. In his new capacity, he will be responsible for overseeing 9-1-1 operations, Fire Inspections, and Emergency Management. His duties will also include coordinating with local, state, and federal partners during emergency situations.
Crumpler’s career in public safety began as a volunteer firefighter at the age of 16. Prior to his work with Cumberland County, he served as a firefighter and EMT for several North Carolina agencies, including the Town of Chapel Hill, Stedman Fire Department, Benhaven Emergency Services, the City of Lumberton, and Robeson County EMS. His professional background includes experience in fire protection technology, arson investigation, hazard mitigation, rescue operations, and emergency response planning.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science and an Associate of Applied Science in Fire Protection Technology. Crumpler has received several awards throughout his career, including the 2022 Award of Merit at the Greater Fayetteville Chamber Valor Awards and Gray’s Creek Firefighter of the Year. He is an active member of the North Carolina Emergency Management Association and the International Association of Emergency Managers.
Cumberland County Manager Clarence Grier stated that Crumpler has demonstrated leadership and a commitment to protecting the county's residents.
