Fay at 5: Attorney General Warns of Post-Storm Scams, FFD Welcomes Crisis Dog, and Teen Fun Night Returns
Attorney General Warns of Post-Storm Scams
As our community continues to recover from Post-Tropical Storm Chantal, North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson is urging residents to be vigilant against an expected rise in scams. The Attorney General’s office has identified common fraudulent schemes that often emerge after severe weather events, including price gouging, contractor fraud, and charity scams.
Attorney General Jackson advises North Carolinians to report any instances of unusually high prices for essential goods or services. Residents should also exercise caution when approached by charities, verifying their legitimacy by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM or checking with the NC Secretary of State’s Office. For those seeking contractors for storm-related repairs, it's crucial to always obtain a written estimate and contract, avoid paying the full amount upfront, and be wary of unusual payment requests.
Fayetteville Fire Department Welcomes New Four-Legged Team Member
The Fayetteville Fire Department (FFD) is bolstering its support for first responders with the addition of Griffith, a specially trained Crisis Response Dog. Griffith is set to officially join the FFD on Thursday, July 10th, and will provide crucial mental health support to firefighters.
Griffith, provided by the paws4people Foundation and funded by Bowen Strong, the Fayetteville Professional Fire Fighters Association, and the Fayetteville Firefighters Benevolent Association, is trained to help mitigate stress and anxiety both at the fire station and at emergency scenes. His presence is expected to help firefighters decompress after difficult calls, reduce anxiety, and combat the long-term effects of PTSD. Griffith will be assigned to Fayetteville Fire Station 5 on A-shift. The community is invited to his official "vesting ceremony" on Thursday, July 10th, at 4 p.m. at Fayetteville Fire Station 5, located at 3040 Boone Trail. The FFD plans to add two more Crisis Response Dogs in the future.
