Detectives Make Arrests in Brook Street Shooting and Break-In

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department have arrested and charged two suspects in connection with a residential break-in and shooting on Brook Street. This incident occurred on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

Suspect

Javariaz Sykes, a 21-year-old man from Fayetteville, faces many charges. These include breaking into homes, stealing items and firearms, having stolen goods, and shooting into an occupied building. He is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Sykes is currently held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

Suspect

Cristal Womack, a 26-year-old woman, has also been arrested and charged. Her charges include having stolen goods and firearms, obtaining property by false pretenses, and being an accessory after the fact. Womack is held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.

These arrests are part of ongoing investigations into residential break-ins. The Fayetteville Police Department’s Property Unit and Crimes Against Persons Unit worked together on these cases.

The shooting on Brook Street happened around 10:02 AM on July 9, 2025. Initial findings showed that a suspect broke into a home that was empty at the time. When the resident returned, the suspect fired a handgun, hitting the homeowner. The homeowner's injuries were not life-threatening. There were no signs of forced entry into the home.
