
Fayetteville Police Officer Charged with Sexual Battery
FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Fayetteville Police Department has announced the arrest of one of its officers following a criminal investigation into an incident that occurred in May 2025. Officer Jacob Jones, a 24-year-old white male hired on November 14, 2022, and assigned to the Field Operations Bureau, Patrol, faces six counts of misdemeanor sexual battery. These charges stem from a single incident that took place on the same date and at the same location.
The investigation commenced after the Fayetteville Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards received notification of an incident on May 13, 2025. On that date, Officer Jones was responding to a call for service, assisting another officer with a wanted person along the Bragg Boulevard corridor. Following the transportation of the wanted person from the scene, Jones interacted with a female employee to review surveillance video. During this interaction, Jones reportedly touched the employee inappropriately on multiple occasions.
Upon receiving the complaint, the department's Office of Professional Standards initiated an internal administrative investigation. Concurrently, detectives with the Special Victims Unit began a separate criminal investigation into the matter.
The criminal investigation led detectives to establish probable cause, resulting in the issuance of an arrest warrant. Officer Jones was subsequently charged with six counts of misdemeanor sexual battery.
Jones was arrested today, June 18, 2025, at the Fayetteville Police Department. He was transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center for processing and is currently being held on a $25,000 secured bond. In addition to the criminal charges, Officer Jones was served with a consideration of dismissal from the Fayetteville Police Department on the same day.
