Fayetteville Woman Charged with Murder in Infant Death

Detectives in Cumberland County have arrested a Fayetteville woman in connection with the death of an infant earlier this year. Cornelia Moore, 54, faces charges of intentional child abuse serious injury and first-degree murder.

Moore was taken into custody by Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Homicide Detectives on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The charges stem from an investigation that began on Sunday, May 4, 2025, when deputies were called to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center regarding an infant fatality.

An autopsy conducted by the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner's Office later determined the infant's death was a homicide. Further investigation revealed the infant was under Moore's care on the day of the incident.

Moore is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center. She made her initial court appearance on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. at the detention center.
