Construction Begins on Helen Street for Sidewalk and Stormwater Improvements

A project to install new sidewalks and improve stormwater drainage on Helen Street is scheduled to begin this week. Contractors will install approximately 2,400 linear feet of new sidewalk and curb ramps along the west side of Helen Street, between Stansfield Drive and Johnson Street.

The project also includes upgrades to the drainage infrastructure along this section of Helen Street. This involves the replacement of selected driveway pipes, which is intended to improve water flow.

This area was previously identified as needing improved pedestrian access routes and stormwater improvements to address flood risk.

A lane closure will be in effect for the duration of the project. Drivers should be prepared for flaggers directing traffic through the construction zone.

The project, budgeted at $500,000, is funded by the 2022 voter-approved General Obligation (GO) Bond. Completion is anticipated by mid-November.

GO Bond funding supports various city infrastructure and operational improvements, including sidewalk upgrades, street repairs, intersection improvements, public safety initiatives, and housing opportunities.
