
Local Warming Centers Open for Cold Weather
In preparation for anticipated below-freezing temperatures, Cumberland County, in collaboration with the City of Fayetteville, has announced the opening of designated facilities as warming centers for residents needing a safe place to escape the cold.
The warming centers will be open to the public beginning this week, offering refuge during their regular business hours.
Veterans Day Schedule Impacts:
Residents are advised that some facilities will have modified hours on Tuesday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day:
Cumberland County and City facilities will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11, and will reopen on Wednesday, Nov. 12, during regular business hours.
Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation facilities will operate on an abbreviated schedule of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Warming Center Locations and Hours
The following locations will serve as warming centers during their operating hours:
DSS Auxiliary Lobby (1225 Ramsey St.): Tuesday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Public Health Lobby (1235 Ramsey St.): Tuesday–Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Cumberland County Public Libraries (All 8 branches): Open until 7 p.m. on Tue/Thu and 6 p.m. on Wed/Fri/Sat.
The Salvation Army (220 E. Russell St.): Open Mon–Fri, 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. (also provides lunch & dinner).
Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Rec Centers: Check individual facility hours fcpr.us/facilities/recreation-centers.
County officials urge all residents to take precautions during the cold snap. Community members are encouraged to check on neighbors, especially older adults and those without reliable heating. Additionally, pet owners should remember to bring their animals indoors during freezing temperatures.
