Market House Roundabout Closed Next Week for Scaffolding Removal
The historic Market House roundabout in downtown Fayetteville will be temporarily closed to traffic from October 6 to October 10, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily, for the safe removal of scaffolding.
The closures will affect all approaches to the roundabout, including:
Hay Street, from Donaldson Street and Anderson Street to the Market House.
Green Street, from Maiden Lane to the Market House.
Person Street, from Otis Jones Parkway and Bow Street to the Market House.
Gillespie Street, from Otis Jones Parkway and Franklin Street to the Market House.
Detour routes will be clearly marked, and drivers are encouraged to follow the posted signs. The temporary closure is necessary to create a secure work zone and safely position equipment around the Market House during the scaffolding removal.
This removal is part of the final stages of the first phase of improvements to the structure and is an important step in preparing the Market House for future use. While vehicle traffic will be impacted, pedestrian access to surrounding businesses and public spaces will remain open.
In addition to the scaffolding removal, the Market House clock replacement is scheduled for October 20. This will also require the same road closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on that day.
Drivers should allow for extra travel time when in the downtown area during these periods. For ongoing updates on the project and traffic impacts, visit the official website at www.FayettevilleNC.gov or follow the City’s social media channels.
