Public Invited to Share Feedback on Sanford's Road Safety Plan
SANFORD, N.C. – The public is invited to an open house on Thursday, August 28, to provide feedback on a new initiative aimed at improving road safety across Lee County.
Hosted by the City of Sanford and the Central Pines Regional Council, the "Safe Streets for All" open house will be a drop-in event from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Buggy Conference Room, located on the first floor of the Buggy Company Building at 115 Chatham Street. Attendees are asked to enter from the Chatham Street Parking Lot.
The event is designed to give community members an opportunity to learn more about the Safe Streets for All Safety Action Plan. Information boards and maps will be available for viewing, and residents can share their thoughts on road safety needs in the area.
This will be the third in-person public engagement session for the plan. Previous events were held at the Sanford Farmers’ Market on July 12, 2025, and the Sanford Multicultural Celebration on August 2, 2025.
The Safety Action Plan is a collaborative effort among Lee County, the City of Sanford, the Town of Broadway, and the Central Pines Regional Council. The goal is to reduce traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries throughout the region, and it is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All Grant Program.
In addition to the in-person opportunities, the public can provide input online through the "Safe Streets for All" project hub at www.sanfordnc.net/safe-streets. The hub includes an interactive map survey where residents can highlight areas that they feel are unsafe or in need of improvement.
