
Raeford Man Charged in Bragg Blvd Murder After NYC Arrest
A second arrest has been made in the February 21, 2025 murder of Mark Singletary. Christopher Quinton Cowans, a 35-year-old black male from Raeford, North Carolina, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in New York on September 16, 2025, on outstanding warrants issued by the Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit initially issued in July.
Cowans was transported back to Fayetteville on September 30, 2025, and has been charged with First-Degree Murder. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond, and is set for his first appearance this afternoon.
UPDATE: March 21, 2025 - Fayetteville police detectives, working with the department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), have apprehended a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of Mark Singletary on Friday, February 21, 2025, along Bragg Boulevard, near its intersection with Winston Avenue.
Alan Wilson, a 45-year-old male from Raeford, North Carolina, has been charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

UPDATE: February 24, 2025 - Mark Anthony Singletary, a 35-year-old Black male from Fayetteville, NC, has been identified as the decedent from the February 21st early morning homicide on Bragg Blvd. His next of kin has been notified.
February 21, 2025 - The Fayetteville Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning near the intersection of Bragg Boulevard and Winston Avenue. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 2:40 a.m. on February 21, 2025, where they discovered a victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim's identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The Fayetteville Police Department's Homicide Unit is actively investigating the incident. Detectives are urging anyone with information related to this homicide to contact Detective E. Alrafai at 910-723-0327.
Authorities have indicated that further details will be released as they become available during the course of the investigation.
