Sheriff's Office Seeks Public's Help in 2021 Cold Case Homicide

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is renewing its appeal to the public for information regarding the homicide of Kenneth Miles Jr. that occurred exactly four years ago this week.

On Thursday, October 7, 2021, 25-year-old Miles was shot and killed outside of his residence on Summerwind Drive in Fayetteville. Miles was known to his family as “Pappa” or “Popeye” and to his friends as “Ali.”

Detectives investigating the case believe that Kenneth Miles Jr. was acquainted with his offender. The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with knowledge about the incident to come forward to help bring the individual responsible for his death to justice.

Authorities have identified Derames Lamar Freeman, a 35-year-old Black male from Fayetteville, as a person of interest. Freeman is wanted for questioning in connection with the 2021 homicide.
