Stein Highlights Apprenticeship Success at Coca-Cola Consolidated, Praises Community College Partnership
CHARLOTTE, NC – Governor Josh Stein yesterday underscored North Carolina's commitment to diverse workforce pathways during a visit to the Coca-Cola Consolidated facility in Charlotte. The Governor toured the sprawling bottling plant and engaged with leadership and students enrolled in the company's innovative apprenticeship program, a partnership with Central Piedmont Community College. This initiative is designed to equip students with the specialized skills needed for high-demand roles in manufacturing, equipment repair, and logistics within the state's thriving industrial sector.
"Every North Carolinian deserves a shot at a brighter future, and that shouldn't necessarily require a traditional four-year degree," stated Governor Josh Stein during his visit. "Opportunities like Coca-Cola Consolidated's apprenticeship program allow students to pursue their interests in high-demand fields and set them up for success in the job market."
The Governor's visit comes on the heels of North Carolina being named the top state for business by CNBC this month, with the state's robust workforce cited as a key strength. The focus on apprenticeships aligns with the strategic goals outlined by the Governor’s Council on Workforce and Apprenticeships. Established by Executive Order No. 11 on March 25, 2025, the Council recently released its inaugural report, detailing ambitious objectives to broaden access to quality jobs. These goals include increased investment in statewide apprenticeship and technical education programs, active engagement with employers to identify and address industry needs, and ensuring every North Carolina student has a clear post-secondary pathway to employment, further education, or military service.
Further demonstrating this commitment, Governor Stein on July 1, 2025, signed Senate Bill 124 into law, a significant piece of legislation that reduces the number of state government positions requiring a four-year college degree, opening up more opportunities for individuals with vocational training and practical experience.
Governor Stein's administration remains dedicated to fostering an environment where every North Carolinian, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to achieve success. Since taking office, Governor Stein has announced over $18 billion in new investments and the creation of more than 24,000 new jobs across North Carolina, solidifying the state's reputation as a national leader in economic growth and workforce innovation.
