Turlington Road Bridge in Coats to Close for Replacement

COATS, NC – Drivers in Harnett County should prepare for a new detour, as the bridge on Turlington Road over Stewart Creek is scheduled to close this week for a full replacement.

The road is expected to close east of N.C. 55 on Wednesday morning, allowing a state highway contractor to begin work on demolishing the existing bridge. Constructed in 1956, the bridge is nearing the end of its operational life and requires an increasing amount of maintenance. The new structure will be a modern replacement designed for long-term use.

The project is part of a nearly $600,000 contract, with the new road and bridge anticipated to reopen to traffic in April 2026.

During the closure, a signed detour will be in place, directing drivers to utilize N.C. 55, Red Hill Church Road, and Ashe Avenue. Officials advise drivers to be mindful of the longer commute and to use caution when approaching the work zone.
