ELECTION RESULTS: Colvin and Jensen to face off in November for Mayor Seat

The field for the Fayetteville Mayoral race has been narrowed down following the non-partisan primary election held on Tuesday. Current Mayor Mitch Colvin and Councilwoman for District 1 and Mayor Pro-Tem Kathy Keefe Jensen have secured the top two spots and will now face each other in the general municipal election next month.

Mayor Colvin, who is seeking another term after serving four years, led the ballot count for the primary. He finished with 6,754 votes, which accounts for 47.61% of the total ballots cast.

Coming in second and also advancing to the general election is Mayor Pro-Tem Kathy Keefe Jensen. Jensen, who currently serves as the City Councilwoman for District 1, received 2,569 votes, or 18.11% which beat out District 3 councilman Mario Benavente who secured just under 10% of the vote.

In other races throughout the city the following individual will face off in the general election for the various council seats up for grabs.

District 1:

Stephon Furgeson - 33.53%

James L. Thomas III - 29.03%

District 2:

Malik Davis (Incumbent) - 62.40%

Gail Morfesis - 23.52%

District 7:

Brenda McNair (Incumbent) - 75.39%

Kathy A. Greggs - 15.29%

District 9:

Deno Hondros (Incumbent) - 60.44%


Joe McGee - 21.41%
